An Introduction to Garden History

10am to 4pm, Saturday 21 March 2020



This study day offers an overview of garden history from the Egyptians to the present day. The sessions will comprise a lively mix of illustrated lectures, hands-on activities and opportunities for discussion. Archive materials and illustrative examples relevant to Stowe will be included.


10.00                 Registration and Coffee

10.30 -12.00     An introduction to Garden History in 10 objects

12.00 – 13.00   A short history of gardens over the last 5,000 years

13.00 -14.00     Lunch: (not included
) option to eat at New Inn Café or bring own

14.00 -15.00     3 X 20-minute talks on different aspects of Garden History

15.00- 15.20     Tea

15.20 – 16.00    Discussion and Questions
