Continuing in the footsteps of Humphry Repton with a visit to Woburn Abbey and Gardens. Please meet 11.30am at the main entrance from the car park (near to the shop). We will then be at liberty to tour the Abbey and view the Repton exhibition: Humphry Repton: Art & Nature for the Duke of Bedford new this year.
The exhibition explores the relationship between Repton and the 6th Duke of Bedford. In c.1802 the Duke commissioned Repton to create designs to enhance the gardens and parkland; it will be possible to view these in Repton’s elaborate and comprehensive Red Book, on display here for the first time.
Woburn Abbey has been the family seat of the Dukes of Bedford since 1574, and contains many fine paintings, including a version of the famous Armada Portrait of Elizabeth I.
Light lunches are available in The Duchess’ Tea Room. At 2.30pm please reassemble for a ‘Repton Tour’ of the garden.
The cost of the visit is: £20 and £22 for guests.
